Germany Inflation Falls to 2.8%, Below Estimates (October 2026)

क्या हुआ

On 30 Oct 2026, Germany's statistics office Destatis released provisional figures for October: consumer price index (CPI) inflation came in at 2.8%, down from 3.3% in September. According to Trading Economics, the market estimate was 3.0%. Prices fell 0.2% month-on-month. The EU-method harmonised index (HICP) also stood at 2.8%.

Core inflation (excluding food and energy) dropped from 2.4% to 2.1%. Energy inflation fell from 14.9% to 12.2%, services from 2.7% to 2.5%, and goods from 3.8% to 3.0%; food remained at 0.4%. According to Trading Economics, a temporary fuel tax cut effective from early October (until year-end) contributed to lower fuel prices. Final figures will be released on 11 Nov 2026. As per Yahoo Finance data, around 9:30 PM (IST) EUR/USD was near 1.117.

इसका मतलब

Germany is the largest economy in the euro area, so its inflation is considered important for ECB (European Central Bank) decisions. Today, inflation in Italy and France came in above estimates, while Germany's was below; meaning the euro area picture is mixed.

Lesson: Understand the difference between headline and core inflation. Part of this drop is linked to the government's temporary tax cut, which is why analysts also watch core figures, which are less affected by such cuts. HICP at 2.8% is still above the ECB's 2% target. Provisional figures can be revised later. This is for understanding only, not buy/sell advice.
