BoJ holds rate at 1.25% in 8-1 vote (30 Oct 2026)
क्या हुआ
On 30 Oct 2026 the Bank of Japan (BoJ) kept its policy rate at 1.25% (the decision came at around 8:32 AM IST). The vote was 8-1: one member, Takata Hajime, wanted to raise the rate to 1.5%.
The BoJ also sped up its ETF sales: from about 330 billion yen a year to about 860 billion yen a year (book value), starting January 2027. The Outlook Report released with the decision raised the median forecast for fiscal 2027 core CPI (excluding fresh food) to 2.6%, from 2.4% in July. The BoJ wrote that it will continue to raise the policy rate, with the timing and pace decided by the data.
According to Reuters, the yen strengthened after the decision, reaching a high of 157.115 per dollar.
इसका मतलब
BoJ = Japan's central bank. Holding the rate was widely expected, so the market focused more on the vote and the wording: one member voting for a hike and the line "will continue to raise the policy rate" show that the BoJ's direction is still towards higher rates. Markets call this kind of language "hawkish".
Lesson: on central bank days it is not just the rate. The vote split, the statement's words, the inflation forecasts and the Governor's press conference all move the currency, and spreads can widen at such times. This is for understanding only, not buy/sell advice.
