China factory PMI falls to 49.3 in October 2026

क्या हुआ

On Saturday 31 Oct 2026 at 7 AM (IST), China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released the official October PMI figures: the manufacturing PMI came in at 49.3, down from 50.1 in September (a drop of 0.8 points). According to Trading Economics, the market expected 50.0, and this is the lowest reading since July.

According to the NBS, the new orders index fell to 49.4 (down 1.1 points) and the production index to 49.8 (down 1.9 points). The PMI for large companies was 50.2, while medium and small companies were at 48.4 and 47.5. The non-manufacturing PMI (services + construction) fell from 50.2 to 49.7 (Trading Economics says the forecast was 50.5); construction was at 48.0 and services at 50.0. The composite PMI was 49.7, down 1.0 point. According to Trading Economics, domestic demand was sluggish as the effect of the Golden Week holidays faded, and overseas demand also weakened.

इसका मतलब

The PMI (Purchasing Managers' Index) is built from a survey of companies' purchasing managers. Above 50 = activity is growing, below 50 = it is shrinking. So in October, activity at China's factories and in services both slipped slightly.

China is the world's second-largest economy and Australia's biggest trading partner, so traders treat Chinese data as important for the AUD and the yuan (CNY). This data came out on Saturday, when the forex market is closed, so the market will only see it when it opens on Monday. The RBA (Australia's central bank) also meets next week.

Lesson: one month's PMI is not the full picture; also look at the trend over several months and the sub-indexes (such as new orders). There is also a separate private-sector PMI survey, which sometimes shows a different picture. This is for understanding only, not buy/sell advice.
