Crypto market falls after Binance hack: Bitcoin near $77,000

30 Oct 2026 morning (around 8 AM IST) according to CoinGecko data, Bitcoin was at around $77,151, down approximately 3.3% in 24 hours. Ethereum was at around $2,211 (down approximately 3.8%) and Binance's own token BNB was at around $713 (down approximately 4.3%). This drop came after news of a major hack on Binance on 29 Oct (full story in our previous post). There are varying estimates of how much money was lost, and no final figure has been confirmed yet.

Binance hack: withdrawals paused, reports of billions drained

On 29 Oct 2026 Binance confirmed a security incident and temporarily paused withdrawals on multiple networks. Binance says user funds are safe. Founder CZ said it appeared Binance had been hacked and that he expects user funds to be fully covered. Crypto watchers estimate at least $2B was drained from hot wallets; some estimates go as high as $5.7B (these are unconfirmed, and the incident may still be ongoing). According to reports, Tether froze about $1.56B and Circle about $800M of linked funds. If losses in the billions are confirmed, it would be among the largest crypto hacks ever (the 2025 Bybit hack was $1.4B).
